ISLAND QUEEN GETS REAL!

Island QueenTHE Island Queen girls for 2012 are certainly set to make a splash again this year.

The girls, also known as Soldiers of Awareness – in the fight against HIV and AIDS – are contestants in the annual Island Queen Competition, to be held in April this year.
This is the fifth year of the competition, but this year there is a new twist where the new owners of Island Queen, Media Support International (MSI), has joined forces with the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership (CBMP) to produce a reality TV series focusing on the lead up to the competition, but at the same time getting a message out on "LIVING-UP" in a safe way.

A video introducing the contestants is making waves on You-tube since its release and can also be seen on the LIVE-UP Facebook page. The locally-based reality TV series centers around the girls journey to the competition and a specially crafted LIVE-UP message. Paul Parris, Marketing Director of Media Support International (MSI) producers of the Island Queen event, explained that the girls are Soldiers of Awareness and will be trained to share the Live-up message.

Island Queen the TV reality series, is set to be aired in 35 regional countries starting February. There are now 12 contestants vying for the Island Queen title from various islands across the region, in addition to Barbados, there are girls from Jamaica, Trinidad and Grenada. Parris explained that the show was now Caribbean based because of the partnership with CBMP, which has responsibility for the region, not just Barbados. He described the Island Queen brand as "evolving".

Of the Island Queen TV series, Dr. Allyson Leacock, Executive Director of CBMP said the organization was excited about the possibilities in the partnership with MSI and was looking forward to the TV series.

"CBMP has found a dynamic and innovative team in the MSI group. When they came to us with this idea, it provided a perfect platform for us to get the LIVE UP message shared in a fresh approach, with these beautiful girls being soldiers of awareness and sharing the LIVE UP message." Parris said MSI was also excited about the partnership.

"Island Queen represents a certain vibe and lifestyle on the island, and we are happy with the package, and the support we’ve been receiving, especially from CBMP", Parris said.
